Changing a 5 gallon water bottle
Changing bottles can be a pain, but for many it’s a necessity. Whenever your cooler runs out of water, just follow these steps and you’ll up back up in no time:
1. Remove your empty bottle from the machine, and wipe down any spilt water from the cooler.
2. Make sure your new bottle is clean. If it’s been in storage, there’s a good chance it will have dust particles and other debris on it that could block the cooler.
3. Take off the cap from the top of the new bottle.
4. Hold the neck of the bottle with one hand, and cradle the bottom of the bottle with your other. Slowly tip the bottle over, and start pouring the water into the cooler.
5. You then need to position the bottle over the cooler, and fully insert it into the machine. Make sure it’s positioned directly over the center of the cooler opening.
Remember, a 5 gallon water bottle weighs a lot! Make sure you lift it correctly (use your legs, not your back).
Cleaning a 5 gallon water bottle
Did you know that a 5 gallon water bottle can actually be dangerous! Sounds crazy, but water bottles can be ideal places for bacteria and mold to grow. If you don’t regularly clean your bottles, they can start to smell as the bacteria begins to grow. It’s possible to use soap to clean your bottles, but I’d recommend vinegar instead. It makes and effective cleaner, but has the benefit of not leaving soap suds behind. Just follow these instructions:
1. Use 5 cups of white vinegar. Pour them into your bottle.
2. Add distilled water to the bottle, filling it up.
3. Leave the bottle to sit for around an hour.
4. Empty the contents, then refill with 2 or 3 gallons of regular water.
5. Empty the bottle again, and rinse the outside.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 twice.
7. Make sure you allow your bottle to dry fully before using.
What are the bottles made of?
Most 5 gallon water bottles are made from a special plastic called polyethylene terephthalate (PET). PET is manufactured to ensure it doesn’t contain any harmful toxins. Water bottles made from this plastic can be reused indefinitely, provided they are cleaned regularly.
